New technology makes it easier than ever to ride; unfortunately that means longer time riding and farther distances to travel to get a good workout.

One day I realized that I didn’t have to use this new technology. I realized that I could get enough exercise without spending a lot of time riding and traveling miles and miles. This thought changed my riding style completely.

I went from a 10 speed, thin tired bike to a fat tired mountain bike to a fat tired beach bike with no gears and no brake pads. This transformation was great. I could get a great workout in 45 to 50 minutes instead of 1.5 to 2 hours prior.

Retirees: don’t get me wrong! Once I retire I look forward to longer rides into the country to little diners serving pie and ice cream in the summer and hot soup and sandwiches in the Spring and Fall. However, I’m not quite there yet. Therefore time is a major concern.

Anyone who has done any real biking knows about Murphy’s Law: What can break will break and at a very inopportune time. Well, with a good old fashion beach bike with no gears and no brake pads, Murphy’s Law is kept to a minimum.

I also found that I could just look up at the sky to check the weather since the workout time is so short compared to my previous trips. No bad weather reports to deal with; such as pouring rain and windy gales blowing in my face.

I’ve found my beach bike to be rugged and very dependable. It fits my current lifestyle which is what matters most to me!
